Wally Awards 2011 Call for Entries Open Until June 8, 2011

CHESAPEAKE, VA – (March 1, 2011) Yupo Corporation America has issued a call for entries for the 2011 Wally Awards. Entries will be judged and winners announced following the HOW Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago June 24-26, 2011.

“We encourage all creatives, designers, marketers, artists and brand managers to consider entering their projects made with Yupo paper,” said Bill Hewitt, Yupo’s marketing manager. “Any creation that uses YUPO – from labels to menus, maps to posters, artistic pieces to packaging – could be the next Wally Award winner,” he said. “Plus it’s free to enter.”

This year, industry professionals and design students credentialed at the annual HOW Conference will cast votes to select Wally Award winners in three categories:
Best Design Entry ($500 prize)
Best Package Design Entry ($500 prize)
Best Artist Entry (YUPO Synthetic Paper sample pack)
The three winners will be announced via Yupo’s FaceBook page after the conference closes on June 27, 2011. This is the first year Yupo has had separate award categories for design, package design and artist entries.

All projects created on YUPO Synthetic Papers that have not been previously submitted are eligible for submission; entry deadline is June 8, 2011. Judges will consider the entries for such qualities as functionality, originality, creativity and “personality,” Hewitt explained.

Entries received by June 8 at Yupo’s headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia will go through an internal pre-selection process. Approximately 25 finalists will be selected to go on display at the Yupo booth at the HOW Conference and judged by industry professionals from across the country and around the world. Descriptions accompanying the entries will help judges learn more about each project and why YUPO was selected as the preferred paper solution.

Last year, the beautiful “Contemporary Baskets” created by artist Dorothy McGuinness of Everett, Washington were big a hit with the HOW judges. The woven baskets made with thinly sliced strips of painted YUPO earned McGuinness the top Design Entry prize.

There is NO fee to enter the 2011 Wally Awards.
