1. YUPO is unaffected by most polar and non-polar solvents at ambient temperatures. Aqueous solutions of acetic or hydrochloric acid will attack the paper's calcium carbonate fillers, resulting in weight loss, but will not affect strength properties. Caustic solutions generally have no damaging affect.

Penetrating solvents can cause severe damage including such dimensional changes as puckering, waving and curling. Avoid using mineral oil, tetrachloroethylene, toluene, benzene, heptane and other aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents at all times. Mineral oil can swell and weaken YUPO; tetrachloroethylene has a similar but less severe effect.

Avoid using any solvent that can soften and/or remove ink from the printed surface.

2. Before printing, avoid surface contact with any chemical or solvent (liquid or vapor) to prevent damaging the surface treatment that imparts YUPO's printing properties.

The following table summarizes the affects of various chemical solutions and solvents.
